Volunteers Needed

The Manhattan Beach Older Adults Program is currently seeking volunteers to assist with activities at the Joslyn Community Center. Volunteers are needed to help staff the reception desk in the recently remodeled lobby of the Community Center and to assist with our popular nutrition program, The Lunch Bunch. If you are able to commit to a three hour shift weekly and would like to help your community by working in a pleasant, vibrant environment, please contact the Older Adults Program, at (310) 802-5430.

The film class at Mira Costa High School partnered with the City of Manhattan Beach Older Adults Program (OAP) to create a short film highlighting the programs and activities of the OAP. Take a look at the video on the City's YouTube Channel.

Aili David is a senior and reporter/photographer for the award-winning Mustang Morning News. This video highlights the Dial-A-Ride program and it’s role in the community for our older adult and disabled population.

The City of Manhattan Beach provides a variety of activities and services for older adults including Dial-A-Ride transportation, bus excursions, classes, activities and Senior Club events.  The Older Adults Program is continuing to expand the programs and activities available to the citizens of Manhattan Beach, as well as those in surrounding communities.

You can also view the Older Adults Program Calendar for an overview of each month's activities. The City of Manhattan Beach offers various discounts for Older Adults 55 and older.
Sports Leagues

The Men's Senior Slo-Pitch League is for men ages 60 years and older. The league runs from March through November in which various games and practices are conducted throughout the week:

  • Skill drills conducted Mondays and Fridays 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
  • Pick up games played Tuesdays 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
  • League games played Thursdays 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

All of these activities require registration through the Parks and Recreation Department or South Bay Adult School. These classes change session to session. For more information or to see the current available classes, please pick up a MANHAPPENINGS Activity Guide at most Manhattan Beach community centers, city hall, the Manhattan Beach Library, Chamber of Commerce, or view them online. Listed is a sampling of what has been offered in the past.
