Boards and Commissions are officially appointed bodies empowered to perform certain acts or assume certain jurisdictions of a public nature. Boards and Commissions carry the same weight and are of a permanent nature as opposed to committees, which may be established for specific and/or temporary purposes.

All members of boards or commissions serve three-year terms at the pleasure of the City Council except the student member on the Parks and Recreation Commission whose term is limited to one year. Members shall not serve for more than 72 consecutive months, except in situations where they are needed to serve until a successor is appointed and qualified. All members, unless specifically noted, must be residents and electors of the City of Manhattan Beach.
